Inaugural Global IMAGO
Cinematography Awards
The first International Awards for Cinematography from IMAGO
will be presented in Helsinki later this year...

I

MAGO,
The
European
Federation
of
Cinematographers, recently announced its first
International Awards for Cinematography will be
held on October 28, 2017 at Hanasaari - The SwedishFinnish Cultural Centre in Helsinki.
IMAGO President Paul René Roestad FNF said:
"Despite the great number of academies, societies,
festivals and other organizations recognizing the
art of cinematography, IMAGO as the Federation of
Societies representing 49 countries feels that the
IMAGO Awards are needed to bring to light many
other artistic works that are produced around the
world and which without them, have no chance
of being recognized. IMAGO realizing this lack of
opportunity for many cinematographers and their
societies has decided to give others the opportunity
to show their artistry and skill in their chosen field of
cinematography."
The Awards will recognize work in Feature Film
Cinematography, TV Drama Cinematography and
Documentary Cinematography. There will also be
an IMAGO Lifetime Achievement Award, IMAGO

Contribution Award and an IMAGO Technical
Achievement Award.
Roestad added: "The primary intention
of IMAGO is to enhance the art of
cinematography and to give added prestige
to the cinematographer. With more than
4000 professional cinematographers as
members from all corners of the world these
awards help us do just that. IMAGO also
celebrates its 25th Anniversary in 2017."
One of IMAGO´s many important aims is to focus on
the art of cinematography and to inform about the
facts surrounding cinematography.
"Through the awards IMAGO will continue to
promote the importance of cinematography in all
audio-visual productions, film and TV towards the
general public, cultural-political environments and
towards our many colleagues in other areas of the
film and television business," said Roestad. "The
International Awards for Cinematography are also
uniquely the first awards anywhere in the world
that will be given entirely to cinematographers by
